Bruce Lee: World Citizen

Share

Bruce Lee is one of my heroes.

No, I’m not into martial arts, but I am into wisdom.  And, Bruce Lee seemed to excel in both.

I watched an interview with Bruce and one particular quote really struck me; stayed with me; made me really think; made me wonder.

“Hmm, what a powerful response.”  I thought to myself.  “I never would have come up with that answer.  It’s from another planet.  It’s out of this world.  It’s like nothing I’ve been taught.”

But, I liked it.  Even though it was outside my area of thought – outside my narrow and limited mindset – I liked it.  I loved it.

It was an “Ah Ha” moment for me.  One of those rare, but thoroughly enjoyable moments.  When a new and exciting ideas pops into my brain.  One that clicks; one that makes sense; one that seems to be the truth.  Yes, that elusive creature called “the truth.”

I was already enthralled with the interview.  Bruce had captivated me.  He shared many nuggets of wisdom as the interviewer asked a variety of questions.

But it was when the interviewer asked, “You still think of yourself Chinese or do you ever think of yourself as North American?, that I was blown over.  Blown over by Bruce’s answer.  My “Ah Ha” moment.

Bruce skipped right over the citizenship focus.  Bypassed it completely.  He didn’t get into patriotism and any kind of “this country is better than that country” dialog.

He didn’t look to divide.  He looked to unify.  And, that’s where his wisdom came shining through.

Now, I’d like to share his response with you.  Ladies and gentlemen, Bruce Lee speaks:

You know what I want to think of myself? As a human being. Because, I mean I don’t want to be like “As Confucius say,” but under the sky, under the heavens there is but one family. It just so happens that people are different.

Bruce Lee, world citizen.

I like the title. And, that’s why I’ve included it as my title. Why I added it on.

Now, I’m not just a property investor, I’m also a world citizen. I was born under the sky, under the heavens. I’m part of the one big family. Therefore, I think of myself as a human being, a world citizen. Just like everyone else. Just like Bruce Lee.
