Carbon tax decision?

What’s with the carbon tax debate?

Is the carbon tax a good thing or not such a good thing?

How do you arrive at a sensible conclusion?

Who, what, when, where … do you turn to for valid and unbiased information?

Beats  me.

But, I’m giving a  speech on this topic next week.  It’ll be a persuasive speech trying to convince my audience to agree with me.  Convince them that a carbon tax is a good thing or convince them that’s it’s not.

Right now, I don’t really have a valid opinion.

I have a gut feeling opinion.  But, I’ve found over the years that my gut feeling is not always right.  A lot of times my gut feeling is based on preconceived ideas.  Based on opinions I’ve already formed.

Isn’t it a lot easier to just to go with your opinion?  Don’t worry about inconvenient facts; facts that don’t support your opinion.

It’s called being lazy.  Letting someone else do the thinking for you.  I’ve been guilty of this “mind crime.”  I’ve been caught out.

This is probably not the best way to approach an issue.

So, I could take the easy way out.  Just go with my opinion and only look for information that supports my opinion.  Then deliver my speech based on my huge information gathering bias.

Or, I could take on the task with an open mind.  Look at argument from both sides.  Take in facts and opinions from a wide range of people; accounting for their biases (e.g. who they work for, government party).  Then, based on this information gathering and considered thought, come to my own conclusion.

I think I’ll go with option number two.

Can’t wait to see how my speech comes out.  And, to see if I try to persuade in favor of – or against – the proposed carbon tax.

I don’t want another tax in which the government can suck even more money out of all of us. I personally have paid well over $25,000 in energy efficiency being solar hot water, solar electricity , insulation etc. So why is it i have to pay even more ?

    1. Good question Lindsay!  Why another tax?  Do we really need another tax if all it’s going to do is drain off personal wealth and provide no added value to the community?  And, this is my fear with the carbon tax … I hope I’m wrong.  I believe your energy efficient investment should be rewarded … maybe a tax break is in order for you and others who take personal initiative!
