Quote of the Week: How’s Your Self-Esteem?

Share

Productive achievement is a consequence and an expression of healthy self-esteem, not its cause.”  Psychologist Nathaniel Branden.

Making a Living Without a Job, revised edition: Winning Ways for Creating Work That You LoveI picked this quote straight out of the book, Making a Living Without a Job, revised edition: Winning Ways for Creating Work That You Love, by Barbara Winter.  It’s in the chapter titled, “Doing First Things First.”  It’s an amazing, eye-opening and mind expanding read.  Check out some more gems as follows:

  • The link between self-esteem and successful self-bossing is so strong that it deserves to be a top priority for anyone who aspires to be joyfully jobless.
  • So, what is self-esteem anyway?  … it is, quite simply, the high regard that you have for yourself.  It begins to grow the moment you give up wanting to be someone else and respect your own talents and temperament.
  • Self-esteem is an inside job and no matter how high or low yours is, you can raise it by keeping two things in mind:  (1) self-esteem is important and deserves your attention and (2) there are numerous commonsense techniquies and tools available for enhancing it.

And, this is only from one chapter!

I plan to use this quote of the week to motivate me.  Motivate me to build up and improve my self-esteem.  Because, I’m convinced, the higher my self-esteem, the higher my quality of life.

I’ll leave you with one last quote from the Barbara’s book – same chapter – as follows:

There’s a reason that I’m willing to risk appearing to be a nag on this subject.  Remember Sophie Tucker’s saying, “I have been rich and I have been poor, Rich is better.”?  Well, my self-esteem has been up and it’s been down.  Up is better.

Have a great, wonderful, and self-esteem building week!
