Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Not Get a JOB!

Now, I didn’t come up with these reasons.  I just ordered them.  So, my contribution is just figuring out the priority.  And, you may feel the order is wrong.  That’s ok.  Feel free to re-order as you wish.

My other contribution is to select my favorite 10.  You may have 10 different favorites.  That’s ok.  Feel free to make a new list.

Here are my sources:

1)  Steve Pavlina,10 Reasons You Should Never Get A Job.”
2)  Christine Kane, “7 Great Reasons NOT to have a Job.”
3)  Jesse Sherer, “10 Reasons You Should not get a Job.”

Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Not Get a JOB!

10. Are you into Lifelong domestication?  (Pavlina)

Getting a job is like enrolling in a human domestication program.  You learn how to be a good pet.

9. Do you enjoy other people Focusing on your Weaknesses? (Kane)

Do you enjoywhen your co-workers and supervisors (and anyone else who wants to chip in) analyze your job performance?  You learn all about your weaknesses – and you get a review outlining the ways you need to work on them.
In the world of the solo-preneur, we don’t mess with our weaknesses. The motto is Strengthen your Strengths. Hire your Weaknesses. In other words, as you become aware of your weaknesses, you don’t waste your precious energy fixing them.
8. How do you feel about working in a Negative Environment? (Kane)

Many office environments don’t encourage creative thinking or positive energy. Instead, there’s lots of negativity among employees who feel powerless.

In your own business, you set the tone, and you choose who enters your environment. You become deeply personally responsible for every aspect of your life.

7. How do you feel about Begging for money? (Pavlina)

When you want to increase your income, do you have to sit up and beg your master for more money?  Does it feel good to be thrown some extra Scooby Snacks now and then?

6. Who do you want to decide your life purpose? (Nuttall)

Do you believe that your life is supposed to have a purpose? That you’re here for a reason and that the world will be better off with you doing what you’re supposed to do? If so, who do you want to decide your life purpose—you or your boss?  Beyond the industry you choose, you don’t really have much influence on your life purpose. Every task your boss gives you advances their vision of your life purpose, not yours.

5. Your money doesn’t go as far. (Kane)

Did you know that employee income is the most heavily taxed income in the U.S.?   As an employee, almost half your salary will go to taxes.  You get to spend what’s left on living expenses.
One of my first self-employed discoveries was that my money went MUCH further – because I could invest in myself or get equipment and supplies with pre-tax income.  Any good accountant will help you make your dollars expand in your own business.

4. You’re a pet at best, and a slave at worst. (Nuttall)

When your boss says “jump,” you say “how high?” Either that, or you later say “I’m here to file an unemployment claim.”  They’re the one in control, make no mistake of that. So it’s really up to chance whether your boss wants to treat you as a slave, or has enough mercy to promote you to the rank of pet.

3.  Loss of freedom. (Pavlina)

It takes a lot of effort to tame a human being into an employee.  The first thing you have to do is break the human’s independent will.  A good way to do this is to give them a weighty policy manual filled with nonsensical rules and regulations.  This leads the new employee to become more obedient, fearing that s/he could be disciplined at any minute for something incomprehensible.  Thus, the employee will likely conclude it’s safest to simply obey the master’s commands without question.  Stir in some office politics for good measure, and we’ve got a freshly minted mind slave.

2. Having a job is way too risky. (Kane)

When you have a job, someone can take away your income just by uttering two words: “You’re fired.”  This is happening more and more as companies crumble in the face of global changes in commerce.

If you ask me, there’s nothing secure about that.
1. Your dreams will never come true. (Sherer)
Many people do the same activities day- after day (largely because of restrictions from their employer) without hopes of accomplishing their dreams. Do you have a dream of traveling the world, not working everyday, or starting a charitable foundation?
