What sort of gun control do you want?

Gun Control. I worked so well last time.Gun control is a fact of life.  There will always be someone in control of the guns.  It’s just a question of “who’s in control?”

I figure there are essentially two types of gun control.  One is the dictator scenario and one is the free society scenario.  You can have one or the other, but not both.  Which one do you want?

It seems to me the current “gun control” dialog suggests you can have both.  I don’t think so.

One form of gun control is in a dictatorship.  That’s where the dictator controls all the guns.  The dictator rules with an iron fist.

The very first step in the dictatorship manual is to get control of the guns.  It’s step one.  Got to do this step first, then it’s smooth sailing.  You can’t skip this step; you must carry it out first.  Then all the other steps are easy.  All the other steps – like government takeover of the press, government takeover of private business, elimination of free speech, elimination of opposition political parties – become a walk in the park; no worries; done deal.

Who’s going to stop the dictator?  Who’s going to stop the person who controls all the guns?

This is the Hitler scenario – a madman in charge of all the guns.  In other words – dictatorship gun control; but gun control none the less.

Another form of gun control takes place in a free society.  This is where the citizens control the guns.  It’s very difficult for a dictatorship to get traction when the citizens are armed.

Now, there are risks with both types of gun control.

In a dictatorship, you risk your life if you go against anything the dictator says, does or decrees.  You essentially give up all your rights and freedoms.

In a free society, you take a risk that one of your fellow citizens may have control of a gun and use it to go on a killing spree.  You may feel threatened and fearful in your daily life.

So, let me ask you, which would you prefer, 1)  The risk of confronting a madman with a gun or 2) Being under the dictatorship of a madman in control of all the guns?

Which would you rather try to stop, 1)  A madman with a gun or 2) A madman in control of all the guns?

In a free society, you could defend yourself against the madman with a gun.  However, in a dictatorship – where you are unarmed – how are you going to stand up to the dictator and his loyal hoards of heavily armed henchmen?

Remember, the first step in a dictatorship is to disarm the people.  Once this is done, the coast is clear; it’s free sailing.

So, when people in a free society – for whatever reason – voluntarily give up their weapons; turn control of the guns over to the government; that society has  taken the first step towards dictatorship.  That society has opened the doors for a madman to take control.  That society has opened the doors to totalitarian rule.  That society has made it much easier for a madman to be in charge of all the guns.

Can’t happen?

Ask the Germans.  Hitler seemed like a nice guy.  Hitler seemed like he was the “right guy” for Germany.  Once he consolidated power, it was too late; it was all over.  Ask the Germans what it’s like to try and argue with a madman who controls all the guns.  Ask the Germans what happened to anyone who questioned the Fuehrer.

For a good article on just how the democratic state of Germany descended into dictatorship click on this link, How Dictators Come To Power In A Democracy.

There will always be gun control.  It’s just a question of who’s in control.

In a totalitarian state, the guns are controlled by the rulers.  The rulers arm their protectors (e.g. police, military, body guards) to the teeth and disarm the people.  In a free state, the people arm themselves.  In a free state, the people don’t depend on the rulers to defend them.  In a free state, the people take responsibility for their own lives.  In a free state the people are … free.

I’d rather be free.

You can have a madman with a gun or a madman who controls all the guns.

Which do you prefer?

You can’t have both.

You decide.

Disclaimer:  I’ve never owned a gun in my life.
